The Battle Creek Community Foundation’s Horizons Radio discussed the Rx Kids program, which provides financial support to new mothers. Qualifying mothers receive a $1,500 check at 15-16 weeks of pregnancy and $500 monthly for six months post-birth. The program, launched in Flint, has shown significant positive outcomes, including 86% prenatal attendance and 96% pediatric visit attendance. It also reduces child welfare costs by $4.20 for every dollar spent. The program is funded by a mix of state and private dollars, with over 12 initial funders. It launches in Battle Creek, Springfield, Albion, and Sheridan Township on July 1.
